Had it done in my left hand about 30 years ago. Simple one inch incision in the palm of my hand. Went into the hospital early in the morning, they did the operation about 9am, went home after lunch, and went back to work the next day. Hand was perfectly normal after a month or so.
I had feeling coming back into my fingers as soon as the operation was done. As simple as it was, I can't imagine anyone shying away from it.
I've never had a problem with my right hand. I'd always heard that if you had the problem in one hand, it was just a matter of time till you had it in the other hand. I also heard an injury or trauma would bring it on, besides repetitive motion. I got to thinking back to a time when I dumped a motorcycle in Japan and landed hard on the palm of my left hand on a blacktop road. My doctor told me that could have been enough to trigger it.
