Since the tractor is already split e decided to look in the tranny to see what we had. Found 1st and 3rd gear were flaking so both sliding gears need to be replaced. We also took the rear housing off to check out the differential, all the gears there are good. However, I tried to pull the bull pinion carrier to get a better look at the differential and broke the housing. My service manual says it will come out, but it's wrong. You need to pull the bull gear to get it out. It was partially cracked anyway, so it's good it will be replaced. Oh well, not the first and likely not my last mistake.
