In our jurisdiction there are many instances of multiple owners but the taxes are sent to ONLY one person and the law takes the position those individuals have to figure out on their own who owes what. The deed cites the owners but to whom (or which one where there are several owners) the taxes happen to be sent doesn't prove a whole lot. YES you're right in general, taxes are sent to the deed of record holders but as long as they get paid the Treasurer doesnt go around looking for who paid what etc and tax payments do not establish ownership if its in dispute, its only one part of the equation and in an Action to Quiet Title all parties have an opportunity to submit evidence and let the court settle it.
