I have been reading about this topic for awhile now as well and since I have a 1 ton pickup with a 20 ft trailer, I was questioning whether I had to stop or not at the weigh stations.
Most weigh station signs say TRUCKS over 10,000 lbs must weigh (stop). Hmm, I wondered, am I driving a truck? What is a truck?
So, I looked up the USA DOT's definition of a TRUCK and it states:
Truck means any self-propelled commercial motor vehicle except a truck tractor, designed and/or used for the transportation of property.
So, since I am not commercial, I do not believe I have to stop if the sign just says Trucks.
