I had a neighbor when I lived in Illinois that resided his house AFTER he took the original wood off, cut it up and burned in his portable burn pit. There too was a burn ordinance there as well, and one day the local police pulled into his driveway and told him that he was violating their burn ordinance. He went into his house and came back with a bag of wieners and a fork and began roasting wieners right in front of them. He asked if there was an ordinance against grilling out, they said no. He told them that some people use charcoal, he used wood after he got just the correct burn. They got back into their car and drove off. I witnessed it.
