Central MN has had very dry conditions, 40 mph winds and a lot of grass fires this week. The fires have spread to houses and farm sites too. Four houses burned in one fire, fire departments from six towns fought another grass fire. All totaled, no people died, but a firefighter was injured and some animals were lost. In my area there is a now a temporary ban on outdoor burning until conditions improve. Other areas of the state with less fire danger have burning by permit only. When the fire danger is gone, the restrictions will be lifted.
Dumb question: If a person's fire gets out of control and spreads into the neighbor's properties, would that person be libel for the neighbor's property damages? What about the cost to local fire departments, or is that covered by property taxes?
