If you're a salesman why bother to tell the truth? No one will believe you anyway. I sold cars for a while, was working a deal on a new Grand Marquis with a couple and they weren't going to buy easy. He was a retired white goods salesman from Sears. Ended up putting him in our training manager's demo. We went back and forth over price him nickeling me down little by little. "I can't afford that much" "I'm on a fixed income", I countered with your new car will have a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, it'll get better gas mileage. I finally get him to sign and even held gross on the deal (not enough to bust out of a mini deal). He has the car about a week and comes back to the dealership yelling and screaming "you sold me a car with a broken gas gauge" I get the car checked in for service buy him and his wife a soda and get them calmed down. I get a call from the service department "Baker they've hardly driven this car, only about 80 miles since you delivered it, they haven't used it enough to burn much out of it" but service pulled the tank and checked the float anyway. I asked him if he remembered me telling him his new car would get better mileage? He says "yes", I point out I wasn't lying, they should probably get 120 miles or so before they get down a 1/4 of a tank. I put them back in the car, get a phone call a few days later that his birthday (that I programmed for him in the key less entry) didn't work anymore. I figure out they must of unhooked the battery when they pulled the tank, ask the guy if he'll be home that evening, drive to his house and re-program the code for him. He slimes me on the 30 day owner survey, claims I never contacted him. Here's the deal the bonus on the 30 day and 180 day survey would of been more than I got on commission. About that time I figured out I need to find another job because this one sucked.
