We have professionals come out once a year to service our oil fired boiler... change the nozzle tip, clean the combustion chamber and change the filter, and other as is needed. One thing that really helped combustion was putting in a flue liner a couple of years ago, the guys said it's never run better. Never any issues in the 13 years since we put it in when we bought the place. The old one had not been serviced and was half plugged up, filter never changed and the burner never cleaned. When we first fired it up that fall it was blowing exhaust out the inspection port into the room.
