I would be modifying the exhaust before I played with the crankshaft. Any extension is going to put added strain on the crank, maybe not a big issue tho if its just driving a hyd pump etc, but if its belt or chain drive off the side that could definatly damage the crank over time. Exhaust is pretty easy to play with usualy, I have made some pretty crazy manifolds from pipe or square tube to fit engines, small and large, into odd equipment.
