I finally got around to investigating the occasional pop I would feel in a Worthington G6 Red seal tractor I picked up last fall and found a mess in the rear end. I'm amazed it would move at all. Someone had tried to 'fix' it by welding the lock nuts holding the pinion in place. The nuts came off with some grinding but now I'm not sure how to get the pinion out. Does the bearing race need to be pulled and if so, how do I grab it. It may be pointless because I'm pretty sure it would be cost prohibitive to fix this even if I could find the parts. This is a 6.6:1 ratio rear end and those don't seem to be as common. The tag is in bad shape but it looks like this is a Rockwell Standard and the best I can read the model is 515241-X19. Anyone know what else these may have been used in? I think my best bet would be to swap in an entire different axle.
