look real hard at idler pulley like some-one mentioned earlier, I had a jd f-725 eating belts as you said,and and in fact it was the idler pulley bearing seized-up I Think that idler was about 25 dollars, as far as buying belts check with oriellys auto parts the belt for my mower cost 100 dollars at jd dealer,I have bought the same exact belt at oriellys for 40 dollars. The dealers seem like they enjoy ripping you off on consumable parts, hope this helps dale
