Patent searches are among the things I don�t miss at all now that I am retired. However, a quick patent search showed several patents with applications in the early 1920�s with issue dates in the mid 20�s. These are all what I would consider to be in the �improvement� class of patents, so the general concept had to be around prior to 1920, so 100 year old technology seems to be about right.

If you go into Google Patent Search with these patent numbers you see the drawings of the inventions that are quite interesting. I did a very quick search on the a couple names of the inventors in these patents to see if I could find prior art. I didn�t, but one of them at least had inventions as early as 1910. RND
