The difference between summer and winter gas is vapor pressure. Summer gas has a lower Reid Vapor Pressure than winter gas, meaning it's less volatile. In general, you can use summer gas year-round. Summer gas is slightly more expensive because refineries have less flexibility in what they blend into the fuel. The EPA, state and local agencies set a maximum RVP for fuel in a particular locality; see the page below to find what it is in your area.
