I feel quite sure what you were told is true.I live in central Ga and a buddy of mine had two of the MRS tractors pulling produce trailers through the field several years ago.I was told they came from south FL sugar cane fields.His were both identical with 4 wheel steering,6-71 Detroit and Allison automatics.Slow,loud,cumbersome,and took two football fields to turn around even with 4 wheel steering.They have since been scrapped.They had 23.1x26 tires and I still have two of the rims that I bought from the scrapyard for tires for my combines.
