Little bucks are funny. They think they all that and a bag of chips. Here's my take on banding. I wait till they are at least eight weeks old. Talking to my vet the urethra grows for several months before getting to full size. When we band it stunts the urethra causing it to not get any larger increasing the possibility of Urinary calculi (blockage of the urinary tract due to stones) later in life. If they are going to be a pet wether and you wait it makes the chances smaller. If they are going to be meat goats then it doesn't matter because they will probably go to butcher before the problem starts. Also, if you are feeding grass hay do not feed grain. It knocks the calcium to phosphorous ratios off. If you want to grain then feed alfalfa only to keep the balance. So, I band at eight weeks in case somebody wants a pet. Nice bucks get to keep the package and are marketed differently then meat goats.
