I worked for Texaco during that'82 strike. First and last time I worked for a union. I hope for your sake it is resolved quickly and you don't lose your house, car, or marrige like so many did in '82. What ever gains you get will never make up for the money lost during the strike if it is a long one. I still live in the golden triangle and I know how a lot of the plant workers live, new $50k trucks pulling $50k boats or trailers loaded down with side by sides or 4 wheelers going muddin or to their deer lease, or maybe just going home to their $200k homes. You got a lot more to lose today. Also I hope the company doesn't figure out that they can run with a lot less people than are currently employed. That was another result of the '82 strike. After it was settled they laid off about 2000 people.
Someone commented about strike pay. I don't know about nowadays but back then the only strike pay you got was $20 when you walked the picket line. You could not draw unemployment either so unless you had other avenues of income you were screwed.
About a year and a half after I was laid offI had the chance to be rehired, I turned it down. I did not to want to worry every few years if another strike was coming and was I going to be able to save enough money to get through it. I currently work for another plant that is non=union and make as much as they do and do not have to worry about strikes.
