It is short because of the lack of rain, but it is not thin. It may just be the picture or maybe a thinner spot in the field. The animals still need to eat, and waiting too long on brome means loss of protein. The picture of the tractor and swather was a field that was cut late the year before and had the same as no moisture up until the time I cut it. I cut it high in an effort to lessen stress on the plant, but brome is kind of like a weed and is pretty hardy. This was the first year that I cut the field of brome that the tractor and swather is in the picture. Regarding the other pictures, there was nothing thin about those fields. It was the first time they were cut in a few years and had a lot of dead plant material in them. They will be a lot better this year. Plus, you need to keep in mind that this is Central KS and we don't get rainfall like a lot of you do. Bob
