keep the current 6 volt lights and put a resister/voltage restrictor in circuit at light switch. Ford dashboard light restrictor for the earlier than computer systems, Chrysler starter wire to coil resister block or radio shack variable voltage regulator or the little block resistor/surge protector for some computer systems. Quickest, easy way. Variable voltage lights from aircraft might be found, the motorcycle 6 volt halogen bulbs need assembly, model T bulbs or pre 1940s IHC Bosch lights were good for 4 to 10 volts since they were meant to run on straight generator with no battery- but again not a off the shelf at local store item.
