Very well put. That was the same situation in the US during those days- the immigrants worked hard to "fit in" and be assimilated into the culture of hard work and achievement. My great-grandfather and his family emigrated from Germany in about 1895, and he forbade the speaking of German in the home- "We're Americans now, and we speak American." The result was that his kids (my grandfather and his siblings) quickly learned English in school, and came home at night and taught it to their parents. My dad fought in WWII alongside the sons of immigrants from many countries- they made fun of each other's cultural quirks, but at the base of it all, they were all Americans, and fought shoulder to shoulder to defeat the common enemy.
Somewhere along the way, this country got derailed. Now, instead of trying to assimilate into American culture, everybody is supposed to "embrace diversity", with the result that everyone is at cross purposes, no one can understand each other because they're all trying to preserve their mother country's culture and language instead of just being "Americans".
The fact that this miserable President we have was elected not once, but twice, demonstrates how far we have sunk. I just hope it is not too late to recover.

The closest town to ours was only 3 miles away, and there were seven dairy farms in the areas of these two country towns.
