When I was about 11, was awakened at 1 AM by state patrol guy- several 400# Holstein heifers next to I-5 (hunters had cut the fence so they could park in the field). Folks were out of town, just me and the hired man there. Old cornbinder truck wouldn't start, so we hauled them home, 2 at a time, in the back of his '46 Hudson business coupe. I stood in the back with them to keep them from jumping over the seat. He hosed out the Hudson in the morning, no harm done.
In retrospect, maybe we should have just pull-started the truck- job would have been much quicker, cop would have been much less irritated.
