Joe started out on his own after WW2 building small screw tip farm trailers. Then built single arm loaders for Ferguson & Fordson tractors, progressing to normal twin arm loaders. First backhoe loaders were based on the Fordson Diesel Major tractors.
He continued to use Fordson Major skid units until Ford introduced the 4000/5000 tractor in 1965. Joe was so furious that he publicly buried one in temper and switched to building backhoes onto Leyland tractors.
