Either way. Mine went last fall. I called the dealer for a kit and she ended up getting me a new water pump. Said there was only $10 difference. To take those off,don't unbolt the whole big unit. Just take the bolts out around the round part of the housing and the actual pump itself splits away from the rest of the casting. Pretty simple engine to get the water pump off of.
