find your local beekeeping club; go to a meeting, normally once a month, tell them you want to get started they will help you with locating good supplier, always best to start with 2 hives, that way you can compare one with the other. If you can get a local nuc (3-5 frames , 1 of honey,2 brood and maybe a pollen frame) the best way to go, you get a laying queen with brood in box already. would guess in your area local nucs would be available in May. Best to get local vs ordering packages from producers in south that bees are not aclimated to northern climate, HTH (keeping bees for 15yrs)
