A friend of mine was from Bowbells ND. The farm backed up to the Canadian border. He graduated from high school in 69. He said his dad had made a "snowmobile" out of a Model A. They put a truck rear end with tractor tires in the back, a truck 4 speed transmission and ski's on the front. He said when he and his twin sister started school they all moved to town for the winter. They took the milk cow and the chickens with them and kept them in the garage. They had no other livestock. His Dad would go out to the farm when the weather was ok and check the place out. I would have liked to see a picture, but he didn't have one.
