Leroy - I had a Maytag that was getting what my wife called "grease" on the clothes. We had a good dealer then, and I approached him about the necessary repairs needed to fix it. He said the first thing to do is make sure it's actually grease. He suspected it was actually a buildup of fabric softener/soap on the bottom and inside of the agitator. I pulled the agitator, and he was right - there was a buildup that had gotten heavy enough to drop pieces loose and stain the clothes. Cleaned it good, and the "grease" problem went away. I fixed two more just like it that had been banned from their homes because of "leaking gearboxes". Good luck. Oh - I had to rig an agitator puller out of a 4X4, a small hydraulic jack, and a cross link from an old tire chain. That agitator had never been removed, and it looked like it was gonna break right before it popped loose.
