A farmer I used to help out had one. It was slick, stayed permanently mounted to the side of the barn. Never had any trouble with it that I remember.
The big drawback was chaff falling directly on you. Straw was terrible and alfalfa was almost as bad. You were always horribly itchy after a day of unloading bales.
I would run over and help him when I could from the farm I milked on. Made for a miserable evening choring and milking.
I'd chalk it up to a genius idea on paper, but not that great in practicality.
I have no idea who made it. I think it was red or orange. The farmer is past away, but I do get by the farm fairly often. I'd bet it is still on the barn. If I can, I'll snap a couple pics BW
