It mostly likely has a hydraulic-clutched direction reverser. Make sure it's full. Diptstick down on the right side somewhere near your feet. Takes combo trans/hydraulic oil. Engine is no different then anything else. One decent battery can start it in moderate weather - 50 degrees and up. Otherwise it needs two 12 volt batteries in parallel. Make sure there is hydraulic oil in it too, for the loader. Tank on the side has a sight-glass window for oil level,.
