The thermostat housing has to come off to replace the hose between it and the water pump. For the upper radiator hose, as already posted just cut the thing off. Don't get the new one cut too long- just enough for the hose clamp and then an 1/8 an inch extra for each side. Wipe the inside of the new hose with WD40 or equivalent and slide it far onto the thermostat housing until it will clear the radiator inlet. Then slide it forward onto the radiator (this is the hard part). The radiator should have springs under the bolts from the bottom and will be able to wiggle some to help you out.
