Got to thinking about JD Seller's post I read last night about it taking just under 4 hours to load and haul 20 steers two miles to town.
Sure helps to have the proper facilities!
This morning we shipped the big end of our steers the 40 miles to our local sale barn, where they will go through the ring on Thursday.
Took my brother and I just under two hours to load about 360 head of 650-700lb steers on 5 semis.
All went pretty smoothly not counting the hour I spent before the trucks arrived with a scoop shovel clearing snowdrifts so gates would swing and pitching some hay on the loading chute.
Sure don't envy anyone who has to make do with makeshift cattle-handling facilities although I do understand why it's not realistic to invest in top notch corrals if cattle aren't your main(or only) form of income.
