We're loaning money we don't have to kids to be trained for jobs that either don't exist or have a waiting list a mile long. Some think a traditional 4 year college is the only way to go. But there's a lot of degrees out there that aren't worth what got splattered on that kids face a few posts up. Acedemia has been pushing that you need to go get a 4 year degree when all that it guarantees for most is a lot of debt. You can go to a 2 year (alternative- see, academia pushing the 4 year deal again) college for a trade, and often start work while still in school. And come out with a fraction of the debt. You don't hear about how long that debt takes to pay off when you're looking to sign up. Graduated high school in 99 and there's people I graduated with still paying on their 25-30k in debts. Work smart not hard? Sorry, but it takes some of both.
