I agree that there are a lot more jobs out there, at least here in Southern MI, but wages have been stagnant for a long time. We've been in a one state recession since about 2001. Just now seeing ads for workers that have a decent pay scale, but for the top end factory jobs we don't have much of a talent pool. In our county we have about 10-12% functionally illiterate. Pretty hard to teach someone how to run a CNC machining center if they can't read. We have about 25% of the population here on some form of public assistance, been that way long enough that it will soon be a generation that hasn't worked. I hate to sound harsh, but it's too easy not to work and get by. I think we've created a class of slaves to the welfare system.
