Actually he can use 1 chain on things that are less than 5 feet long and weigh less than 1100 lbs. 5 to 10 feet long you need 2 chains Over 10 feet long you need 2 chains for the first 10 feet and 1 chain for every extra 10 feet. ie: over 10 but less than 20 feet requires 3 chains
