I also noticed the Maytag and De Laval signs. I wondered if the JD shop sold them or if it was a separate business next door. Though the JD sign seems to encompass both portions of the building.
Well... I just can't fathom a kick start washing machine. BUT I do remember my grandma's electric ringer washer - got my fingers "pinched" a couple of times. (Grandma was stubborn and simply refused to buy a modern washer until about 1980!! I was in high school then.)
