Charge it first. It will probably come up some. Even if it doesn't come all the way up, it will be OK. Better a little low than sloshing out the top, especially if it's off road, going to get bounced around.
Don't think it would really matter to add acid or distilled water. If you need to get rid of some left over acid, wouldn't hurt it.
