On our farm we have no-tilled into standing stalks with just unit mounted no-till coulters on a 7000 Deere. They worked best if we fall chopped the stalks. The last few years I have been much happier using yetter floating tiger tooth row cleaners on our Case IH planter. I still like to chop or roll the stalks with a cultipacker And roll again immediate after planting beans. The better seed to soil contact has rally helped our stand in most situations. The final thing is be sure you have the planter set deep enough to get down to the soil not just under the stalks.
