I think that you will find the same thing with the 8000 series tractors also. The 8100 and the 8400 have most everything in common and vary only a small amount on the shipping weight. I think that is mostly the different equipped tires and the dip stick for the oil capacity is shorter in the larger models to give them more crankcase capacity.
