I have noticed that the darker colored corn is usually higher in test weight. I used to raise a DeKalb number that looked almost like candy corn it was so dark. I sold some of that variety one year that had a 63 LB test weight.
I notice the early Cargill corn was a real pale yellow almost white in color. The test weight was never very good. The yield was not there in the mid 1980s either.
