It varies state to state. Some states protect landowners allowing hunters free access as a means of opening up more hunting ground. MN tried that a few years back. I don't think they changed the laws sense then. If you rent/sell hunting rights then you can be held liable under that law.
To the best of my knowledge any time you set a trap to disable a vehicle or injure someone you may not only be liable you may also be charged with a criminal offence. Last time I checked MN is that way.
