It's not entirely necessary that there be a track to box the push blade in. We've had a Farmco 'Bull' spreader for close to 30 years and it uses a similar push blade arrangement with the exception that it's a rear unload and the hydraulic cylinder is contained within the push arm linkage much like a scissor hoist. It will rise in the box if the load is extremely heavy and dry and requires huge amount of force to move but otherwise it rides flat on the floor under it's own weight.. although it does have a bit of a shovel under the load that helps hold it down..
