Dumb question: On a tractor that needs to start in very cold weather, but does not run for many hours and is almost never needed at full power, say it uses less than a tank of fuel per year. Would it hurt anything to run it on #1 diesel fuel year around instead of #2? Fuel economy and maximum power would both drop a little because of less energy per gallon of fuel, but there should be less problems with fuel gelling in winter.
I agree with keeping the tank full is best and an anti-bacterial would still be needed. Anti-gel additive shouldn't be needed once the tank is mostly #1 diesel and the tank is always topped off with #1.
