Those are NOT a 'normal' split rim! they are a 2 piece wheel.The 'mating' surface is narrow,only about 1/8".They get old rusty,they go BOOM! and you are dead.Even letting the air out they can come apart.The pressure change can cause shifting between the halves.BOOM!Hence the moniker "widow maker".And,whatever,under NO circumstances,EVER use an impact wrench on them if inflated.Just the vibration can cause BOOM!Scare you,I hope so.
