IMHO, country has been pop since the '70s. The people who lived the lives that gave Western music it's original feel were all dying off or long dead, as in the case of Uncle Dave Macon. He had a mule team freight service looooong before the Opry & passed in the '50s. To keep country alive, it had to get a different polish to it to keep it interesting. As that genre progressed through the '80s.... I have no idea what happened to it, I had lost interest. I have heard some songs since, but they indeed sound less & less like the music they are touted to be. Wait! I do have a contemporary country artist in my music collection, Hank III. 'Bout as modern as I get & I'm not much younger than Mr. III.
