Ye Olde Ferguson Weeder! We had one actually. When sprays took over from mechanical weeding we still found a little job for it. We grew winter field beans which we planted by drilling the seed onto the surface of the ground then we would plough them in. We then used to give the land a roll down once the ploughing had dried a little then give it a does of Simazine which was a pre emergence herbicide. The following spring we would run the Ferguson Weeder over it coupled to our M-F 135 which would give it a final levelling and pull out any surviving small weeds such as cleavers (which Simazine would not control) but without damaging the bean plants themselves .
