Textile plants in NC...yep, we used to have ALOT of them, including Cannon Mills, which was one of the bigger ones. Now we've got a Technology Park, or whatever the heck they call it, and a lot of dead space, where the mill stood for a lot of years.
They made it from 1887 to 2003 when they went totally bankrupt due to not being able to compete with items made overseas. The result was over 7500 people here in the US immediately out of work. Believe me, I live within 20 miles of where the mill stood, I personally knew quite a few people who were effected, and it wasn't pretty.
