I am,well aware of the problem with these cans. I use a large funnel with a screen at the botton. I haven't done this yet, but painters use a large fine filter to strain paint. I plan to use this along with my funnel with the screen. I am sure my tanks have some of the crud you described inside. I have used a pump to pump from the jerry can into my tank, before I realized the problem. Stan
