I have been told that the older air bags contained Fulminate of Mercury as the propellant. Same stuff as in pistol and rifle primers. That may not be correct, but it was what I was told. I had an IDIOT hit me head on and totaled my 1993 Taurus, and the air bags deployed. The smoke was so thick I couldn't see out of the windows. Rancid as well.
