Connecting two John Deere Rs or Ds in tandem was apparently not uncommon in the Canadian Praries back in the '50s before large tractors became available. I remember seeing pictures of a John Deere Dealership in one of the prarie provinces of Canada, named Double R, who built and marketed John Deere Double R tractors. Tandem Ds were apparently less common. However there was a feature story in one of the antique tractor mags several years ago about the rescue and restoration of a Tandem D in Washington state. The owner was connected to a voc tech high school and much of the restoration was done by students. Also several videos on You Tube. Really neat piece of equipment. Google the subjects and you will find some neat pictures.
