Or so they postulate. What if it's like cattle and the original species is just lost? Reading further they look at genetic clues, but it still isn't conclusive. The problem with modern science is they pass a lot of theories off as fact until disproven rather than just stating it as a theory or another theory replaces it.
I think it would have been more interesting to have dealt with tangible lines, like tracing back to the 1500s. No doubt many crops have changed a lot, even withing the past 5-600 years.
