Early days, perhaps B&S differences, etc. Then along in 50's a "different from Chevy V6" (GMC unique), and late 50's GMC trucks used Pontiac V8. Always close cousins. From the ~70's more or less, GM started using the so called "corporate" engine in just about everything from GMC trucks, to Cadillacs, and it was the basic small block Chevy engine. I didn't look up the dates, so interpret those with liberty.
