I am curious how bumpy the bottom of the furrow is. It seems it would have to be really bumpy to affect the ride of a tractor pulling hard. Is the field rough? If so perhaps the gauge wheel is transferring the field roughness to the bottom of the furrow. My JD F145 4 x 16 works real good without the gauge wheel. I have seen what seems to be like chipping out of the bottom of the furrow. I attributed it to my being at a depth that is chiseling the hardpan. But the chipping did not affect the ride of the tractor. Enjoy the pictures. Paul
